A writer with a camera on his hip.

If it’s related to storytelling and/or visual arts, I’m probably a fan.
Amazing work! Especially that last shot🔥

Wow, stunning! Laser sharp shots too. I'm not really a gearhead, but would love to learn what you used for these.

Having said that, it was a fun 2 hours at the theatre.

Oh and it looks horrible and lifeless. Which could have been a thematic thing if handled better, but as is just feels like a grey, lazy mess.

Just engaging in the act of creating something — anything — and especially art, is ambitious as hell in my book

We still get to do our thing, no harm, no foul.

I mean, there are people today still developing daguerreotypes.

So yeah, traditional photography ain’t going nowhere fast.

And for those who value tradition? Those of us who just want to snap shots of the world as it is and use every tool at out disposal (except generative AI) to make it prettier?

Maybe we don’t yell at clouds and instead try to see things for what they really are.

Some artists will find great, innovative, mind-bending uses for generative AI.

Others will pale in comparison.

And we, as a society, will recognize the difference, just as we always have.

So maybe the role of photography isn’t changing all that much.

Maybe it’s as fake as it’s ever been.

And maybe generative AI will just bring a new layer of fakeness to the art - no different than what photoshop and digital retouching did in their day.

This got me thinking of my post from the other day, about the role of photography changing with the advance of generative AI, and the whole “what can we even trust any more” dilemma.

But even Sontag is careful to say that, in photos, reality only “seems proven”.
