Embarking on a journey to uncover the hidden world of radioactivity around us. From rare minerals in the wild to surprising radioactive finds in antique shops, I’m on a mission to answer one burning question: where is the uranium?
Spent a lovely morning at the Northumbria Open University Geological Society AGM today at Gosforth Nature Reserve. My first visit. They are great folks and go one some great field trips - I've learnt so much in the last year. Join now! ougs.org/northumbria/

Canny little display of Joblings Glass including some uranium glass items. I need to go back with my UV torch to see which ones glow. A nice example of a glass press too. Part 3 of my Uranium Glass will focus on glass makers south of the Tyne, having covered George Davidson in Part 1 #uraniumglass

I hope they will let me have a go at digging when I go in May :) if not I'll have to make do with having a go at panning #tyndrum #cononish #goldmining

Radium suppositories. Because who wouldn't want alpha particles bombarding their back passage?

The most glowy clock I've ever seen and a cool piece of Uranium Glass from Sowerby. Always a happy hunt at Fannies, Morpeth. #uraniumglass

Mrs Uranium Hunter, Burt and I have had a fab day at the Hancock Museum today. In a joint session, we learnt all about the wonderful work museums and associations do in collecting and cataloguing minerals and gems.

Was doing the Lego with the kids and couldn't resist a go with the UV torch. And guess what...the glow was mighty!

I really enjoyed this book. Depsite the cover it was a little light on Nuclear war but it was fun for a quick potted history of the Cold War in Britain. Was a The Works cheapy special.

Something new - Tritium tube

Tritium only emits Beta radiation when it decays to Helium 3 at an energy of 18.6 Kev.

Mrs Uranium Hunter and I have just booked a cheeky little break here for September. Cannot wait. The promise of visiting mines, radon baths, radium spas and soaking up the history of this place is intoxicating. #radiumspa #jachymov #czechrepublic #radonbath

I absolutely love a spicy radioactive Ali Express order, fresh in the post today.

Just booked myself a cheeky long weekend in Tyndrum, Scotland in May. Going to investigate the old mines for uranium, have a cheeky peak at the Cononish Gold Mine and even try panning for my own gold. This has been on my bucket list for ages.

I know someone it going to tell me it's more tritium or plutonium, but it's a cool meme nonetheless.

My adventures to Carlcroft Burn in the Cheviot Hills after Christmas has been one of my most, if not, the most satisfying of my Uranium Hunter adventures so far.

Snow in the Cheviots.

I was rockhounding in the Cheviot Hills, and it started to snow. That wasn't the only discovery I made...

Mrs Uranium Hunter has been ever so kind to me this Christmas. Amongst my goodies was a Uranium Glass Christmas Tree decoration (from www.etsy.com/shop/DeadlyC...), a custom wool hat and a personalised Uranium Hunter diary for 2026's adventures. Can't wait to fill it in!

What did you do post-Christmas? Checked out some heavy-duty rockhounding tools of course. That uranium won't come out of the ground by itself.

A very merry Christmas to all you glowy fans, here's to hunting down more radioactivity in 2026. What's your one thing you want to find next year? For me it's either an aircraft dial or a radioactive spring.

So... who's getting this for Christmas? And yes - it was real, yes - it did contain real Uranium and yes you could mail out for top-ups.

A little‑known 1978 geochemical survey (Leake & Haslam) revealed that the Cow Cleugh tributary (NT 930 155) is a polymetallic hot‑spot along the Breamish Fault Zone.
Want to see the dazzling mineral concentrates up close and learn how these early surveys changed everything? youtu.be/k642-JpQZps?...

I had such a surprise when exploring the Breamish Valley between Low and High Bleakhope. Not on any of my maps, I came across this spectacular double waterfall. And something else amazing too.
