this week has taught me two new things
a) foreigners have NO idea what the fuck ""state censorship"" is or how it works in china
b) SMoFs if not science fiction fans as a whole are far too obsessed with the letter of the law, and do not pay near enough attention to the people enforcing the laws

Someone explained to me how the WSFS business meeting works. Are you telling me that Worldcon has a 4 hour business LARP every morning for each day of the con? Only this Robert's Rules RP impacts WSFS's constitution 😱

Fair warning: this is likely to be a long thread.

tl:dr - unfair though it may be, IMO the people who are responsible for the Hugo Awards trademark are now in a difficult position. Definitely morally, possibly legally.

The *administration of the award* may move around. But the *mark* does not.
🧵⚖️
Neither the Hugo Awards website nor the Hugo Awards BlueSky account administer the Hugo Awards. Each year's Awards are administered independently by each year's Worldcon at the Hugo Awards Administration Subcommittee established by the Worldcon.
