This one has the unusual addition on the back, I think. It's written up in the AIA Guide.

Agree this area is a gem. I walked it a couple of summers ago when I was in town for business. So glad I did! Lots of variety - and clearly appreciated by the owners. And they're keeping up the details like the paint colors and painted details.

Russ' had the fun system of ordering by phone from your table in some of their locations (with an old fashioned switchboard operator). My family referred to this as "no tip", because there was no gratuity for a wait person. Appealed perfectly to local frugality.

The smart owners of Mr. Burger reportedly perfected their operations in the 1980s by sitting in their competitor's restaurants (Mr. Fables, long defunct) and taking notes. Fables learned their operations as franchisees of Kewpee in the 1950s. Those paper tickets have a long lineage!

Thank you for posting this. It takes me back to my time as an undergraduate studying medieval architecture. I knew of Conant and Cluny III, but did not know the backstory.

Sad that they removed the concrete frame. That gave it sculptural presence.

I once had a client near this building and always enjoyed seeing it as I was rushing to their offices. That massive green lawn with this as it's centerpiece.

One of the first FLLW houses I saw as a kid, helped create a lifelong interest in architecture.

Robert Mosher was a Taliesin apprentice. There's a bit of Wrightian in this.

Pure hubris?

An unnecessary tragedy to lose the original LACMA campus.

They keep sending me letters and messages trying to get me back as a member.
