These were developed by Francis Peabody Sharp in New Brunswick, Canada. At the time in the 1860s, he had the largest planting of one cultivar, 20 acres of Crimson Beauty, less than 20 miles away from where I live. I have one in my orchard. It seems happy to be in its ancestral birthplace.
