Little shop of Horrors is the best telling of Faust. (The stage version is better than the movie)

If I were to hazard a guess they I'd say they want it back from universal suffrage.

I just had the obligatory how many roasties is enough conversation, to which the answer is always "more than that" regardless of the number of roasties 😁

I stand corrected, I shall read it in a new light.

I agree on that specific point, it would have been better to phase it in over a period of time. The bigger problem many farms (and other small businesses) face is a total lack of any succession planning at all.

In someways Farm IHT breaks feel patronising. They imply farmers can't manage their own legacy or assets. Why assume they need policy to "meet them where they are" when they're no less astute business people that others?
December 23, 2025 at 10:44 PM
Maybe this isn't what you meant by that, but I think it would be difficult to argue that allowing someone to keep a million pounds worth of inherited estate tax free is "leaving them to fail"

Or put another way Jurassic park is now pretty much equidistant in time to today and one million years bc

Even so, I suspect IHT government policy reversed or not, through focusing minds and attention, will have actually had a net positive effect on preserving small family farms.
December 23, 2025 at 9:22 PM
If you read farmers weekly there's succession planning (or lack of it) comes up again and again as one of the main reasons small farms get sold to larger corps. Not a small business problem that's unique to farming TBF.

Other films that meet this description
The Shawshank Redemption
Blade Runner

Both lost money on initial release, both went to VCR/TV relatively quickly for their era.

I'd suggest Toy Story at 81 minutes. Incredibly tight script and the animation tech could have easily been 20% less good and with that cast and script still been a hit.

Less “everyone must learn the new tool” more “the ecosystem changes"

Photography meant less demand for portrait artists, & photography quickly found far more uses than portraiture ever had

Portraiture didn’t vanish, but demand shifted & new kinds of work appeared that hadn’t really existed before.

My current thinking is that LLMs are a quirky, awkward programming language but very powerful in the right hands. They work well for experienced programmers, who will use them more to reach into and understand other fields, which is basically what good software engineers do anyway.

While we're being all nostalgic.

My granddad was a milkman I know what he'd have said about self driving vans.

“It knows the route, you don't have to drive AND deliver bottles, just grab the milk deliver and walk to the next house, it'll stop at the next house”

Pause

“You mean like a horse?”

"Do you remember when kids used to play outside and do their own arithmetic?"

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
