How do you cope with the politics of blatant cruelty?
My fear for this country and it closest friends and allies grows daily. I knew that when he took office he would almost certainly do the things he promised, but the pace of his destruction and chaos far outstrips anything I imagined, and at this point, we are only just over two weeks into his regime. Blitzkrieg, with all of its connotations, seems to be an appropriate word to describe what is happening.

I am sad and angry. At times, I am embarrassed to say that I want to avenge and punish those who are intentionally harming others, to have them experience the fear that their cruelty is causing only to realize that I am becoming like them, which is undoubtedly one of their goals, a country of angry and vengeful people who want to harm each other while they reap the benefits of that conflict.

What type of leadership is required at this moment?
In the last couple of weeks, two very different styles of leadership were on display, one at a funeral and the other at an inauguration. The leader who was eulogized was repeatedly described as someone who served his country and the world while answering to a power greater than himself. The other is self-serving, believing that there is no power greater than himself.

Decades ago someone shared a  phrase that stuck with me: "I am an old man with many worries, most of which never happened." Being human means that we sometimes imagine problems that never materialize, or as has happened to me, when they do materialize, I am better able to manage them than I anticipated.  None of us know with certainty what the months ahead will bring to us individually or collectively, let alone the next few years.
