3️⃣Because we work with schools to help leaders and teachers develop their thinking about reading, through increasing their knowledge, challenging misconceptions and being strategic about solutions.
thinkreadhq.bsky.social
2️⃣Because it’s a very different way of thinking about reading compared to ‘whole language’, ‘balanced literacy’ and disability-focused models. Thinking Reading tutors have to change the way that they think about reading.
thinkreadhq.bsky.social
1️⃣Because it’s about helping children to become not only accurate but automatic in their decoding, freeing up their working memory to THINK about what they are reading.

❓Why are both our organisation, and our teaching programme, called ‘Thinking Reading?’ Glad you asked!

We partnered with an 11-18 secondary school in Kent who were determined to eliminate adolescent illiteracy.
📚24 of their students have now graduated from the programme.
📚The students gained between 2.5 years to 8 years in their reading.
📚The average gain was 5 years in 33 half-hour lessons.

3. We love hearing these success stories. But we are not surprised. Our promise to our partner schools is that the students they think can’t learn to read, will learn to read. Not only that: they will catch up rapidly — and completely.

2. All 11 students in Year 7 who were reading well behind have now caught up completely, with gains from 2.5 to 7.5 years. This cohort of students will now be able to move forward with less need for support, and more ambition in classroom learning. No child left behind 📚

1. More great news from one of our partner schools. The proof is in the pudding, & here is the pudding 😁 A partner school in north Kent has now almost eliminated the problem of poor reading in their students.
