And in case it’s unclear, this is a compliment to Reiner.

Those aren’t just five amazing writers, but they’re also five incredibly different writers.

Stephen King, Aaron Sorkin, and Christopher Guest are three entirely disparate points of the tone triangle.

Reiner slayed with all three.

Now that we’re in an era where seemingly every great director writes their own films, we may never see a filmmaker work with this many legendary writers again.

A man who seemed to be made up exclusively of wonderful things

Exactly! And the fact that we’re inundated by endless reunion tours by bands that manifestly dislike one another but want to cash in is such a perfect target for mocking. Unlike most legasequels, I felt this one had a true reason to exist.

But folks, you simply cannot make that much timeless work without being the primary reason all that work is timeless. You cannot make six all-time classics in eight years without being truly great, regardless of whether you mark your trail with an inimitable style.

Directors that don’t have an obvious style tend to get the short straw in historical appreciations of the great filmmakers. If we don’t clearly see *them* in the finished film, we think they must not be the primary driver of the film’s quality.

This hurt Sidney Lumet, and it hurt Rob Reiner.

I really thought the sequel was underrated.

Too many celeb cameos, but most of the jokes really landed for me.

The movie was decent (it’s streaming on Kanopy and Roku, and it’s worth your time), but I’ll never forget the way Reiner spoke to the audience about the historical moment we found ourselves in.

He dedicated his life not just to making people happy, but to preserving the very capacity for happiness.

The idiots there wouldn’t see the liberal tweets even if all the liberals came back, because Elon doesn’t want liberal ideas to have presence on his Nazi message board

Ha, I grew up in Muncie and went to BSU (my dad was faculty), then lived in Indy for a few years afterward before fleeing the state
December 14, 2025 at 10:48 PM
That’s where I drove from Muncie to see Trainspotting and The Blair Witch Project!

And then I saw a million movies at the Keystone landmark between 2005 and 2010.

By the way, excellent header. We stan for those Art Adams X-Men annuals of the ‘80s.

Lulu tried, but that interview was enraging

Growing up in Muncie, Indiana, I used to think indie movies were “Indy” movies—as in, movies you had to drive to Indianapolis to see

I’m sorry I don’t, but I saw them open for Modest Mouse two months ago and you’re in for a great show if you can make it!
