My favourite variant on this is a story I think @davidlidington.bsky.social once posted about a constituent who told Robert Rhodes James when canvassing in Cambridge in the 80s that she hadn’t voted Conservative since 1918 because they broke their promise to hand the Kaiser

His surname and his life peerage are both Carington. Only his hereditary peerage is spelled with a double r.

But that’s not what he said! He said he wants to stop housing asylum seekers in hotels (which only happens because their claims haven’t been proceeded fast enough and has been government policy since the general election)
