I'm gonna guess that's the same credit card verification scam that's been hitting both Mastodon & Bluesky, just tailored for Tryst.

I've always used GitHub SSO, but it's so painfully slow it's not funny

If you benefit from the work of marginalised communities & people, then you should try to lift them up and try to ensure they receive enough funding and support to continue doing the work they are already doing — but supporting work doesn't allow demanding scope change

It should go without saying, but it is not on the Black community or the Queer Trans community to lift everyone else up. Expecting as much will probably lead to a negative response.

Marginalised communities are not your saviors, they're just trying to exist and thrive.

I feel like taking five or ten minutes to actually understand who you're addressing is probably a worthwhile task before trying to make demands or claims

And people do well with a lot of uncertainty in their lives?

I think we can agree to disagree and leave this conversation at that.

Healthcare? Housing? Current mainstream social media? Um.. the list can go on and on.
December 10, 2025 at 3:36 AM
Not necessarily. Yes, feed requests are proxied through the PDS, but the PDS doesn't really know anything about the endpoint being requested (e.g., what shape the response has)

We've also seen this story play out ad infinitum over the past few decades, and the market hasn't really made the best decisions for people nor society. Is repeating that going to produce different or better outcomes here?

How do you do ads on something with basically no user interface?
December 10, 2025 at 3:13 AM
Well, that and quality of service; how do you grow a nascent network if everyone needs to pay to play, when they haven't needed to elsewhere?
December 10, 2025 at 2:55 AM
Yeah, but then the market takes what the market wants. It's a catch 22 situation

I think the tricky part for infrastructure providers is that they're competing with free, largely free offered by Bluesky PBC. That acts as a pretty big disincentive to setup and operate services
December 10, 2025 at 2:33 AM
I'm not trying to reduce to "community", but rather recognising that community is a strong motivator for pooling resources, and that in decentralized social, that's a very common thing, trying to ignore that it exists would be doing a disservice
December 10, 2025 at 2:16 AM
Right, but you tend to pay for infrastructure, but that's not what we see in many PDSes (nor most fediverse instances), where they are either free or donation supported.

There is an argument to create infrastructure providers, but most aren't operating in that manner already
December 10, 2025 at 2:12 AM
"The pressure" is a sociological reason: why do any humans get together a pool resources or share resources? The answer is almost always community.
