2) Not necessarily dragon termites, could just be giant termites or regular termites! But yeah instead of volcanos making islands, the "landmass" are giant termite mounds (maybe uninhabited/abandoned, maybe not).

I didn't combine the two termite ideas but sure!
1) What if dragons had more insectoid features? Carapaces, more legs, mandibles, compound eyes. Instead of dragons by colour, you have beetle dragon, wasp dragon, grasshopper dragon, etc.
