Many gun owners see themselves as responsible, but most don’t use triple-secure storage (locked, unloaded, ammo separate).

Providers: careful education and guidance can make a real difference in preventing injuries, while still recognizing gun owners as people who intend to be responsible actors.

Children shot with firearms need brain surgery twice as often as adults. Many require intubation and transfusion. Even when we can save lives— the physical and mental trauma lasts forever. As clinicians, we must speak out: kids deserve protection, not trauma bays.
