Doing so only plays into the hands of those who will actually walk away as winners, the corporations and billionairs who actually hold power, while we fight amongst each other for scarps. It's hard work to check our emotions and hatred, that is actually an important aspect of real democracy.

Admit it or not there is a certain catharsis in hating the enemy and loving your side. It feels kind of euphoric to be "right" even if the cost is further alienation. I happen to believe "they" are indeed sliding into fascism. But we have to be careful not to partake in gleeful hatred.

Problem with doomerism is it's addictive. This will be unpopular but left wing doomeris shares more in common with right wing doomerism than we might like to admit. There is a certain schadenfreude in wanting to watch the world burn involved in both whether you admit it or not.

Yeah watching all this happen perhaps the scariest shit isnt what has happened so far but the long term damage and wounding to the social fabric and how we are ever going to repair it.

Newsome gives me the ick. I don't think the answer to right wing populism is left wing populism, and as others have said his views on a number of things is problematic. He feels similarly slimey to me as trump just voices opposing views i suspect mostly cause it allows him to be popular.

Fascism is very fragile in its early stages. The bad news is in those early stages people are stunned into a state of derealized, denial. And hopelessness. Did... did I just see that happen? Is the government seriously gaslighting me? Yes! Fascism relies on steamrolling over you during that state.

Well part of that may be a symptom of what you talked about before, that we now let algorithms choose what we want to watch. This will drive the development of bubbles and tribalism because it increases ad revenue. It also means you may be increasingly only reaching like minded people.

At this point its just an economic inevitability as renewables have now become measurably just cheaper due to economies of scale. It's just bad economics now to bet against it.

Jesus Christ we want more affordable housing does not necessarily equate to driving the entire housing market down. It means building more stock of affordable rental housing, diversifying the housing stock. Legislating what the mix should be. Not that I expect them to tell the truth.

It’s amazing how quickly technology has been lost to the mists of history. 30 years is a blink of an eye and we have products that were written about, reviewed sold and used by tens of thousands of people and now it’s hard to find any info at all about what they even did let alone get them working!
