It’s just one more example of income inequality turning into a vicious cycle.

I think both can be true at once; that’s what gentrification is, wealthier (and usually white) people forcing lower income people to either pay higher rent / property taxes or move further out of the city or into worse neighborhoods. But those newly wealthy people have to come from somewhere.

The reason NPR is the only source in those markets is because the government has given them a competitive advantage over its competitors, both large and small. This is like (and basically is) saying we shouldn’t break up monopolies because they’re the only ones providing a resource to the community
