King of the wild frontier. Old librarian, making my way in a world I never made but nevertheless have to live in.

As a former drinker who still puts away a pot of coffee every day, yeah, those are rookie numbers.

Oh look, it’s someone else who used to do some good work 20 years ago being wrong.

Unfortunately I think that so much of pop culture seems to depend on various types of ancillary fandom phenomena--fanfic, cosplaying, social media saturation, etc.--that someone creating a thing that seems completely sufficient in and of itself just confounds people.

Some of them became DOs, which are real doctors who are somewhat into holistic medicine, and the rest went beyond the woo event horizon.

The amazing thing for me was that Abrams made TROS as basically the precise movie that the outrage grifters claimed to want, and it was horrible, but all that mattered to them was that they got their way. Just like Zack Snyder’s Justice League for DC.

Well, since AI depends on vacuuming up content created by real people…

Am I correct in guessing that the likely subscribers are the same people who pay to be in these very ripped-from-Amazon-AI-slop things?

"And so I'm sitting there and I says, I says to him, 'Now I'm thinkin' about this scripture and I gotta tell ya, the whole business about "thy rod and thy staff," I mean, they're the same thing, basically, right?' And he's like, 'well, in a manner of speaking, sure. You can have two, see.'"

Robinson is also in Cobra, an 80s Stallone film which may be worth watching just for the supporting cast (Brian Thompson, Brigitte Nielsen).

I think that a lot of that desire (and yeah, I had that too as a teen) is wanting/hoping that they’ll apply Dan Savage’s campfire rule.

I'm not a hipster trust-fund socialist, but I'm willing to learn. Is there a special school or something?

It's 1985. I'm thinking about just beaming Rorschach to a really good therapist, not like the one he saw in jail.

It's 2015. I'm reviewing Rorschach's Reddit posting history.

It's 1985. Never mind.

Really wondering how large the set of "people with whom you'd be comfortable playing this with, but for some reason not just having real sex with" is.

The MCU got it right that Ant-Man would be ideal for this sort of thing. Cap, too, as long as he put on a more subdued suit--he probably did a bunch of cloak and dagger stuff in WWII. The rest, not so much. (Silverclaw, maybe, since she's a shapshifter, but also... very shiny?)

In all seriousness, it was sabotaged by a) Berman and Braga being burnt out (Berman wanted to take a year off after VOY and was told that he’d lose his job), and b) UPN starting its controlled descent into terrain. If they’d put it into syndication, it could have gone for seven years.

Wu's economics and business understanding aren't any better than her politics. People working for an establishment that has their family names on it don't necessarily own it any more in the present day than they would in a post-scarcity society.
