We did used to be called Gunchester in the nineties, after all

As I've said elsewhere, my next book The Knight Watch won't be published in the US. My former US publishers told me it was unpublishable, that some of the queer characters were 'stealing the show' and that the reader would 'get confused' about which characters they were meant to be invested in 😑

Long overdue

My wonderful friends and D&D buddies have commissioned this lino print as a shockingly thoughtful Christmas gift: it depicts the scene from Perilous Times in which Lancelot approaches Manchester on his Brough Superior. I'm utterly delighted.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 'Dr Dee:Mortlake to Manchester' exhibition at @chethamslibrary.bsky.social which rendered Dee's dreams as mesmerising light displays. Very impressive.

Update: my ankle pain is really flaring up today. I assume this is because I have angered the demon stool by scalping him. Have drawn a Chi Rho on him to try and restrain his malice.

'Yeah you can scream all you like, but it's your own fault for breaking my ankle you demon fuck'
November 8, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Here, my friends, is the demon stool. Even by sharing this image with you I have put you in danger. Please make the sign of the cross, or utter a protective charm of your choosing, before you continue reading.

Tolkien would have abhorred Elon Musk and his ilk, who 'prefer the acquiescence of the “quisling” to the resistance of the patriot'

We can say 'it's not about the money' and focus on the injustice of the crime but I think we should be wary of thinking that it's somehow vulgar or obscene for us to demand remuneration for having our work stolen. That's getting into 'all writers should live in a leaky garret' territory.

See I'm an old plane nerd but I'm a big fan of the Vickers Vimy Commercial, which looks like a child's drawing of an aeroplane

I think you would like Countess Savina, the vampire sorcerer/fighter I've been playing in 5e for a while now

@zackpolanski.bsky.social has convinced me to join @greenparty.org.uk

I trusted Labour to make things better. Instead they've made things worse for refugees & trans folks, cosied up to Trump, and sided with tech bros against UK writers & artists. I don't see why I should ever vote for them again.

I wonder whether Sydney Anglo has ever been bibliographically sandwiched between two Wolfenstein games, before now.

So long story short that's how I ended up owning the entire Millennium Collection. They had been in that school for twenty years without being read, and I felt sorry for them. (And they would have ended up in the trash if I hadn't taken them, before anyone accuses me of stealing from kids).
