The first two episodes of The War Between the Land and the Sea certainly aren't challenging my favourite episodes of Doctor Who - but overall, I'd say they were probably the best start to a DW spin-off that I've seen so far.

Now THAT'S a badge of honour I can wear with pride.

I know that plans like this require so much planning that they can't be a reaction to today's "theatrical windows" comments, but it's certainly a nice coincidence!

The Age of Fear series, available on Steam.

I found them a few years ago, and enjoyed them a lot. They felt like an attempt to replicate small Warhammer Fantasy tabletop battles in a video game; they're indie games, but there's a huge variety of options and factions available.

On #DoctorWhoDay, it is customary for us fans to give thanks for this silly little franchise of ours.

Specifically, I'd like to give thanks to whoever decided to match THIS image with THIS episode title:

Dammit, Pearl, that's a scarecrow - not a scarousedcrow.

When they die, the greatest warriors of the Astra Militarum become Imperial heroes.

The most zealous become Imperial saints.

And all the rest become

Quick question for fans of The Sarah Jane Adventures: is the fanfare that plays whenever Mr. Smith deploys non-diegetic, or are all the characters hearing it?

I think I'll watch an ITV pilot and read a short story (both from 1996) today.

On a completely unrelated note, I wish Steven Moffat - one of my favourite writers, in any medium - a very, VERY happy 64th birthday!

And who could forget Snake's ecstatic monologue about the modified 1911 he receives in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater?

...Dammit, now I want that scene in a pantomime.

Just have a Baneblade emerging and retreating behind cover like it's being hidden by Creed's TACTICAL GENIUS, with the other characters always being too slow to turn around and spot it.

I'm bending the rules a little, but if I know you as well as I think, you probably won't complain...

I thought I'd try to psyche myself up for "The War Between the Land and the Sea" by finally watching the only Doctor Who spin-off I haven't seen yet.

...Yeah, I dunno, it seemed like a good idea at the time.

I'm not sure if the Incomparable's "Total Party Kill" podcast could ever get Sara Pascoe on an episode, but she HAS played Dungeons and Dragons at least once (on a live-stream for Comic Relief) - and judging by this week's episode of QI, she has the right instincts for the game.

A big "Thank you" to this week's episode of Have I Got News For You; I've saved this screencap for when I eventually get around to playing Nier: Automata.

What's that? Taking an airship to the planet's desolate northern wastes?

Thanks for the reminder; I've been meaning to dig out my old Warhammer novels at some point...

Speaking of James Spader ... well, as far as Things That A Stranger On A Train Shouted At Me goes, "You look just like that Robert California from The Office" turned out to be surprisingly accurate.

I hate to criticise a show like QI, but if I had my hand on the klaxon, I'd have deducted some points from Alan Davies for this.

I just wanted to sit down and watch some Thomas Hardy adaptations ... but alas, they were made by the BBC, so I ended up playing Spot The Time Lords after all.
