Can SCOTUS ruling in favor of the tariffs be read as anything other than a political decision, as opposed to a legal one?

It’s a “meddlesome priest” moment. Even if Trump didn’t have explicit knowledge, he created a permission structure for DOJ to pursue an indictment.

But will he? I’m so sick of this shit.

Always amazing to me when these games manage to come down to the wire somehow.

Me too.

Knowing that it’s appreciated by you will prompt me to say it again: thanks so much for your level-headed analysis! I wish more purveyors of information were just straight shooters like yourself - the world would be a much better place.

I think they have thoughts - those thoughts are probably just colored by an unjustified confidence that things will work out alright for them specifically. And if the alternative is oblivion, they’re probably thinking: what do they have to lose?

And I managed to get pneumonia from some random respiratory virus in December - still recovering. I *really* would like to dodge the flu this year if possible.

I’m surprised that prevented you from watching Stranger Things. Too exhausted, or just a strict no screen policy?

I find that acting as a devil’s advocate can also mitigate the confirmation bias / suss out better material. Which I suppose speaks to your points #2/#4.

They can use some boilerplate bullshit to get around the requirement. “Redacted to protect victim confidentiality…” Cut and paste 1,000 times. Done.

An ability to confidently verify the accuracy of the supplied information is also critical. At least in my line of work, hallucinations are very much a thing.

Have to think it played at least some small part.
December 11, 2025 at 10:14 PM
A lot of that going around.

Indeed. The medic getting shot at the machine gun nest and the hand to hand combat near the end were both utterly horrifying.

I was thinking about this recently the other day in the context of music in the car. Before, we were limited to radio stations and whatever physical media we had on hand, both of which had their quirks! Now, the entirety of music is available to us at a moment.

Got into making espresso at home about a year ago…today it’s a latte made from an espresso blend from a local roaster.

Unwinding of a Trump trade for some reason?
November 16, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Sadly, the threat of unruly mob violence may do what political leverage can’t.
November 11, 2025 at 8:28 PM
That this post is posing a hypothetical obviously went over a lot of people’s heads, but even understanding that, I’m not quite sure what you’re getting at. Are you saying that “austerity” won’t be politically viable?
November 6, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Nor does that have anything to do with what political ads are run in other countries. (e.g., the Canada Reagan ad)

I think he was getting at re-shoring. But of course that argument is gutted by the fact that you can’t, say, grow bananas or coffee here.

I’m sure there are ways to repackage and rebrand these policies in a coherent and appealing fashion. The tariff policy could be something like: “Congressional checks on import taxes.” Stock trading could be pitched as “Leveling the playing field” or “Government accountability” or something.
