I make boring corporate web apps and herd cats (sometimes those are the same thing).

I have now had two separate friends (who do not know each other) send me this and I'm starting to worry.

Most neighbourhood Facebook groups are piping hot garbage fires, but the Fenelon Falls group is exceptional. This is literally the most wholesome thing I've seen on Facebook in ages:

I, too, would post anonymously if I were asking this question.

Perfect post placement!

Look. I love pickles. I have been known to drink pickle brine just because I think it tastes good. I absolutely add it to Caesars.

This?

No.

Do not.

Not even on a dare; it's just not fucking worth it.

I know everything is horrible but please enjoy this Vaseline glass epergne I found (and left) at Red Rock Antiques near Bobcaygeon; it is STUNNING.

Calling my DM to tell him I've got a new D&D group.

Take the fictional characters quiz and post the first four that you know.

This would be the graph in question. It was so eye-popping I instantly screen-capped it.

Ok, art-lovers. Help me figure this out. Picked up in a local (Kawartha Lakes) auction. No info on provenance, artist, etc.; we just liked it. Looks like it's screen-printed? I dunno, grade 10 graphic arts was a lifetime ago. Signed 'vers sacrum bart 67'.

The birds were quickly identified as sandhill cranes.

Some replies offered additional information.

I did not know, until this point, that people ate sandhill cranes.

I had doubts, so I hit The Google Machine.

Also, this image has made the rounds in EVERY SINGLE local FB group I am in. I love it.

Finally: the thing that saved our asses last week. Shout-out to the woodstove that we almost removed. Not actually intended for cooking but it'll definitely do in a pinch.

My Jamaican immigrant supervisor, once I explained everything to him, said "oof, sounds like an icy hurricane" and he's very close to correct (thankfully we didn't have too much wind; the damage was all from the weight of the ice). Freezing rain started Friday and ended on Sunday morning.

Some photos from the immediate aftermath; I did not sleep at all on Saturday night (the constant sound of trees cracking and breaking, and heavy branches crashing to the ground all around us (and onto my house at one point) doesn't make for a good night's rest. I went out as soon as the sun rose.

Anyway, now that I have modern conveniences again, please enjoy these images of "icy hell in the Kawarthas":

On the left, this is how many people were without power in this region as of April 1. On the right, the current situation (CoKL is at 36.62% outage).

This… is this a problem for you?

See, this is what I need to learn to do.

Though I do not share your optimism; many people will never figure it out, ever, not even with diagrams. I kinda wish there were pop-up reminders for people like that.

If I were nicer, maybe I'd work on teaching Pepe about consent.

Anyway. This is Pepe.

This ad popped up in a news article I was reading. Quitting drinking in this hellscape seems like a terrible idea, but if it'll turn me into an anthropomorphic, overly-muscled lion-man then fuck it, I'm all in.

It snowed more last night, so I got up early and went out to shovel (again). I have somewhere to be tomorrow night, so at some point, we need to be able to get the car out of the driveway. (Shaun will be helping today, too).
