Our executive director announcing the Textile Sustainability Game Jam for 2025. We would use some of the games to promote textile sustainability at events and we definitely would promote any of those games heavily.
Announcing the Textile Sustainability Game Jam! I will possibly be co-hosting with a very special guest. (fingers crossed!) . I love gaming, I love my job preventing textile waste and promoting textile sustainability. I have the power to use your games for good. :)

Give your local #nonprofits some love. If you’re able to buy them something on their wishlist or office supplies, cleaning supplies, etc. you will really be making a difference. This folding dump table is $250 and helps us so much with distribution or Freejects. We were just donated two.

This is a label from the brand RSQ by Tilly’s. Impressed by this whole label and if even a small percentage of wearers treat this garment more sustainably, that’s a win. #textilesustainability #textileconservation #reducereuserecycle

This is a shame. We are hoping soon to be working with a textile to textile recycler. But it’s challenging because we have to sort by fiber content and we don’t have the equipment.
Only 0.3% of materials used by the global textile industry come from recycled sources, with almost no textile-to-textile recycling, according to a new report

If everyone that supports our mission of local textile #circulareconomy gave $5, Thread Up Oxford would receive thousands of dollars this #GivingTuesday We prevent ALL material we receive from the landfill or overseas, at least until it leaves our hands into someone else's. givebutter.com/O2dOhR

Thread Up Oxford is a very unique idea - we want to #REDUCE new textile consumption through outreach and education, encourage #REUSE of secondhand textiles, and facilitate #RECYCLING of everything that can’t be reused in some way. Please join us in a new lifestyle of #textilesustainability !

#Freejects are an important way we redistribute textile material back out into the community. Hundreds of pounds a month of textile items with flaws/stains/holes that are still usable in some way are outside our donation center whenever we are open for anyone in the community to grab for any reason.

A true community project, though put together and installed by #Crochet Duck Mafia. This is outside our Uptown Threads secondhand store in Uptown Oxford, Ohio. #Zerocost yarn scraps and donated crocheted items turned into an amazing #yarnbomb #yarnbombing #oxfordohio #sustainabledecorations

Tires pollute microplastics! Fabric is only one source of this pollutant in our environment.
#Microplastics: billions of vehicles worldwide shed an estimated 6 million tonnes of tyre fragments every year. These tiny flakes of plastic eventually accumulate in the soil, in rivers and lakes, and even in our food.
Car tyres shed a quarter of all microplastics in the environment – urgent action is needed

T ariffs are one reason to shift your buying to secondhand rather than new - but buying secondhand should have been the model all along. From a #textilesustainability focus - The fast fashion industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions due to production and delivery systems.

Tariffs are a whole other ball of wax we haven’t thought of as far as the effects on new vs secondhand consumption. It’s important to understand the entire picture in order to convince the public to buy secondhand.
Start recycling, go to garage and estate sales, thrift stores, and avoid tariffs

Donate anything usable and useful when and wherever you can
Stock up on veggies and cans and non-perishables
I think we’re in for a freefall

What does Thread Up Oxford do? Most of what we do is redistribute fabric items back out into the community. Our service area to sell/give away/repurpose is firmly focused in Oxford, Ohio (USA) and surrounding Butler County. But we extend also into Indiana and Ohio’s Preble, Hamilton, and others.

In a world flooded with endless options, hyper-consumption is the default. Each season brings a new 'exclusive' collection, but when everything’s ‘exclusive,’ can it even be called luxury? #SustainableFashion #SlowLiving #Minimalism

Really great article going over the #Ghana #FastFashion disaster we’ve created with our over-consumption of new textiles. Brings it up to 2024 as previous things I’ve shared are from earlier.

Let’s find each other on here! I’m excited especially to learn from like minded people in the EU. Seems like you guys are leaps and bounds ahead of us in terms of regulation, tech, and other aspects of textile over-consumption and waste creation.
