After over a year, I finally have the sound changes for my indo-european conlang where I want them.

I have also managed to bumble my way into a system where every declension, and potentially most individual words, are extremely irregular. It's a nightmare.

One of my favorite bits of modern slang is "cooking / cooked". it's very fun grammatically, because the connotation is according to aspect rather than tense.

"Is cooking / was cooking" = good
"is cooked / was cooked" = bad

Folks took "toast" and added some more layers to it, and that's neat

Well on the plus side, 2152 days is a really solid streak for not getting covid

I am currently down with the sickness (ow-wah-ah-ah-ah [hacking cough]), so here's a slushpile roundup of yet more wikipedia links from my notes

I do not like this time of year one bit, but I do like binge-listening Esoterica. Lose some, win some (occult knowledge)

Do you want to get reasonably mad about copyright law with me?

P. Scott Hollander wrote a detail almanac / gazetteer to Hell in 1974. The kind where there's a section on the history of its flag. It's pandering directly to me.

Extremely cool thing I just learned and need to tell everyone about:

Quilombo dos Palmares was an independent country founded by escaped slaves in the Brazilian backcountry, and it resisted the Portuguese for a century.

New post, more mythos shit. I swear this year of Lovecraft was unintentional. The muse is weird.

What do people know about the Mythos?
I don't buy into the premise of a masquerade between the mundane and supernatural. False dichotomy, Enlightenment hubris, strains disbelief,...

Haven't had much to report re: Leslie Stone project, as progress has petered off of late. With most of the shorter works taken care of in the first pass, the longer ones remain, and I would be lying if I said that it wasn't a tedious process.

Still: i have found it a good balm for anxiety.

Some days, the brain is busted.

Then some days it says "Hey, remember how the Tartakovsky Clone Wars kicked unreasaonable amounts of ass?" and I answer "yes, brain, correct, thank you for reminding me"

Got installment 9 of my video game micro-review series.

Somehow, there are even more bangers

Further Asbury Pines notes:

I love the story and the writing and the way it's all doled out, but man, idle games were invented to torture ADHD people. Too much happening on screen! No pause button! I just got like 6 updates let me read them!

Grabbed Asbury Pines on a whim, because the idea of a Twin-Peaks style narrative idle game intrigues me

The second thing you unlock on the Civ style tech tree for religion is "Giant Sloth Deity", and I am sold. All hail the sloth.

Love how I can just tell someone "ADHD hamstrings my memory and chronic stress has made it infinitely worse" and their response is "But what about //more// stress, have you considered that?"

Wanted to write something quick and easy, so I cooked up another one of my "line-by-line dissections of monster write-ups in big-name RPGs" posts. This time it's the Gnoph-keh, because Call of Cthulhu is the gift that keeps on giving in this department.

Hell is Us has one of the best dungeons I have ever seen in a video game. Huge amount of design stuff you can and should swipe for tabletop.

Me, earlier today: "Oh this linguistic paper looks neat"

Me, just now: Either I am going insane, the author messed up the terminology in their own MA thesis, or retrocausal linguistics just got invented

Honestly amazed that no one has made a SCP-ish management sim TTRPG yet. Like we've already got Delta Green at home, let us play as the bureaucrats who have to wrangle the yearly budget allotment for containing the nuclear fusion mangos or whatever

My run of stumbling across banger video games continues: Hell is Us is "what if Death Stranding was an exploration/puzzle-first Soulslike based on the Bosnian War"

3 hours in I've just hit the title sequence and opening credits and I am all-in. This shit is like catnip for me.

Yo y'all need to check this out. Easily some of Rowan's best work. This book is laid out the way Chainsaw Man feels to watch.
