It's still part of the party's history. Just because people changed their party affiliation over time doesn't mean the history of a party is erased.

But not in the house. The senate is supposed to represent the interest of the state. The house represents the interest of the people. That's why each state gets 2 senators bc each state needs to rep its interests equally but diff populations get different reps on the house
