At the DMZ in S Korea they had an exhibit which included examples of alcohol made in N Korea which was interesting. While they also sold recreated examples at a nearby shop I didn't grab any as that just felt oddly weird. Like commercialisation of a tragedy.

Tried for fun recently, Superstition's Peanut Butter Jelly Crime Mead - more balanced than i expected, suprisingly savoury nuttiness over the fruit notes.

Another reply, each with less meaning than before. Apparantly they have an expectation EHRC would engage with a diverse range of voices. Which is very odd considering how we keep hearing of trans people being shut out and transphobic groups given unprecedented priority access.

The Government would like to reassure you that it recognises the importance of transparency and accountability in relation to changes in statutory Codes of Practice. The EHRC is an independent statutory body and is responsible for drafting the Code. The Commission has revised its Code following the six week consultation. The Government has made it clear that its expectation was for the EHRC to engage widely and broadly, listening to diverse voices. The Commission has submitted the draft updated Code of Practice to the Minister for Women and Equalities. The Government will consider the draft updated Code and, if the decision is taken to approve it, the Code will be laid before Parliament. Parliament will then have 40 days to consider the Code. The Government is also clear that it remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the Equality Act 2010 which protects everyone from unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation in the workplace and wider society. Darn the Hideout had a banging Craigellachie tasting, with the rep kindly bringing everything from a 13 year old base expression to 29 year old sauternes finish that was an Asia only release. Lovely heavy, complex whisky.

The Government is determined to tackle transgender hate crime and all other forms of hate crime wherever in the country it occurs, and whoever is responsible for committing it. We have a robust legislative framework in place to respond to hate crimes which target race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and transgender identity. There is no excuse for violence or abuse driven by hatred and discrimination, and we support the police in taking strong action against those crimes. Whilst the police are operationally independent and work in line with the College of Policing’s operational guidance to respond to hate crime, we expect the police to fully investigate these appalling offences and work with the Crown Prosecution Service to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.

It stated the definition of sex in the Act “makes clear that the concept of sex is binary”. It further noted that “although the word “biological” does not appear in this definition, the ordinary meaning of those plain and unambiguous words corresponds with the biological characteristics that make an individual a man or a woman.”

Single-sex spaces are protected in law and will always be protected by this Government. There, of course, remain protections in place for trans people to live free from discrimination and harassment and have their acquired gender recognised. The EHRC has revised its Code following the six week consultation and submitted it to the Minister for Women and Equalities. Taking a break from the usual and having and Kodakara Umeshuu (plum Wine) from @indiespiritbath.bsky.social - feels more natural fruit than a lot of plum wine, less of that marzipan note a lot of umeshuu have and instead a slight sour natural plum note behind the sweetness. Very yum.

Was so happy to go to the Benromach tasting at the Hideout, visited the distillery back when it had just reopened, not even the ten year released yet, and had a soft spot for it since.

The Government hears those concerns, and recognises the very real impact this moment is having on members of the trans community, their families, and allies. In its judgment, the Supreme Court announced on 16 April it had reached a unanimous decision that the terms ‘man’, ‘woman’, and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex. It ruled that a Gender Recognition Certificate does not change a person’s legal sex for the purposes of the Act. It stated the definition of sex in the Act “makes clear that the concept of sex is binary”. It further noted that “although the word “biological” does not appear in this definition, the ordinary meaning of those plain and unambiguous words corresponds with the biological characteristics that make an individual a man or a woman.” The Government welcomes the Supreme Court’s clarification of the meaning of sex for the purposes of the Equality Act, and the confidence and clarity it provides for women and service providers such as hospitals, refuges and sports clubs regarding single-sex services. Single-sex services based on biological sex are protected in law and will always be protected by this Government. It also recognises that the application of the ruling in some settings is complex. It requires careful work to ensure that service providers have confidence in how they apply the Equality Act on a day-to-day basis. The independent Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) - Britain’s equality watchdog - has consulted on its proposed changes to the draft updated Code of Practice for Services, Public Functions and Associations following the ruling. This will provide guidance to service providers. The EHRC will now take time to consider the responses to its consultation and make any necessary changes to the final draft before submitting it to the Minister for Women and Equalities for approval. Following this, the Government will undertake an equalities impact assessment, in line with the Public Sector Equality Duty, and lay the approved draft in Parliament for scrutiny. The Government would like to assure you that it remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the Act which protects everyone, including trans people, from unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation in the workplace and wider society. It is committed to protecting trans people, ensuring that they are treated with dignity and respect. The Government is proceeding with its manifesto commitments to deliver a full trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices, and to equalise all existing strands of hate crime, and we are working to improve adult gender identity services so that all trans people get the high-quality care they deserve. The Government is determined to tackle transgender hate crime and all other forms of hate crime wherever in the country it occurs, and whoever is responsible for committing it. We have a robust legislative framework in place to respond to hate crimes which target race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and transgender identity.
