"Violently resisted arrest" is the line now?

I can hardly handle when my reddit posts get like 50 comments and people start saying weird ill-natured nonsense. I always know it's coming, and it still always upsets me.

"policy positions of the avg MAGA voter"

That's not what the post says, though? The average MAGA voter is not "horrified" by ICE's abuses.

Efficiency ratings measure possessions, not games. "You had 80 tries to score on Cal: how many points did you get?" The idea is that if you lose on a full court heave, that's random, doesn't tell you much about your next game.

Quads are dumb but they are based on NET, not the other way around.

I just want politicians who have a natural skill for talking to people. There are very few on our side.

Instead we get,
"Let me--be clear. The billionaires--working families. Fuck."

All this meta-discourse is a huge embarrassment. What is y
our plan to win Ohio? How do we get Trump voters to vote for a Democrat for senate? No meta discourse allowed unless it's a direct result of arguing about those questions. No skipping.

No? They didn't write "we don't know why", they wrote that the Supreme Court isn't saying why. Which is true and important. Certainly doesn't make the Supreme Court look good, doesn't excuse Trump, and doesn't make anything into a riddle. No idea what you all are upset about here.

My personal opinion not to be repeated in front of non-locals is that there is a good reason half the line leaves when they announce they're out of chicken. But my impression is that Stephenson's also uses commercial charcoal, and they are my favorite bbq in this post allen-and-son era, so . . .
July 5, 2025 at 12:48 AM
Traditional NC bbq is cooked over fresh charcoal, not the original wood itself. Using premade charcoal is not as cool but not invalid.

I am strongly in favor of this, but whenever I bring it up in person or online, it unites the left and the right and the informed and the ignorant in extreme opposition.

And this is a very hard question that no scholar has really answered. It's a test of deep research's ability to find the right evidence and not make stuff up.
July 2, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Not trying to do a "AI is bad" gotcha btw, just not convinced by any deep research yet.
July 2, 2025 at 9:45 PM
My test prompt is "How did Anton Reicha's compositional style change over time? Answer using the latest research and by referring to specific pieces." Gemini was wrong before even starting to research, though! Hallucinated facts and jumped to wrong answer about early Romanticism in its research plan

I sincerely don't understand why they would use such an absurd phrase. Has anyone ever called Hegseth a "star", even when he was only a tv guy?
June 19, 2025 at 7:58 PM
Hmm, I swear I read this explanation many years ago? Or maybe this is just a much more rigorous/convincing demonstration, especially with the "nth"?
June 19, 2025 at 11:48 AM
This headline in particular is better than most NYT headlines, does not have all the stultifying "headline words".
June 17, 2025 at 12:36 PM
Had no idea, thanks
June 14, 2025 at 3:44 PM
Interesting. I would have taken "God loves everyone" as an obvious pro-lgbtq message without this context.
June 14, 2025 at 3:41 PM
What? How in the world do you get that? Is he a known anti-lgbtq guy?
June 14, 2025 at 3:37 PM
So, Kershaw is good? What is going on on in this thread? I am not smart enough to keep up with who we are mad at.
June 14, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Why is it ironic?
June 14, 2025 at 3:28 PM
It makes perfect sense now, and it is very hard to summarize in one line in a graphic. Maybe "thrown the last 771 of her teams' pitches in world series games" woulda helped me.
June 5, 2025 at 12:51 PM
What does that mean? Or is it a bungled graphic?
June 5, 2025 at 1:51 AM
The other thing I like, classical music, is oddly (or coincidentally) the same: a performance by a top young string quartet is genuinely athletic. It's difficult to believe how energetically, virtuosically, even violently they play.
May 15, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Tennis is exactly the same! There have been moments--Djokovic/Medvedev US Open final a couple years ago for example--where it reached a point of absurdity. Single games more physically demanding than whole matches 20 years ago.
