He/him. Writer at Small Loan Studio, freelance editor and narrative designer. Words in TheGamer, White Wall Review. Probably obsessing over Dragon Age/Zelda.
I love it so much, especially because it gives more of a nuanced take to characters who aren't the biggest fan of your Hawke staying in your party for plot/mechanics reasons.

And also the rivalmances. Rivalmances are great.

Especially because if they wanted to go for a more Dragonair-like Dragonite a regional form would work so much better instead of slapping a pearl on the original

I think megas are the place for completely ridiculous over the top designs but something about eyebrow/antenna wings isn't working for me

It's the rare game where I'm even a fan of its issues. Like the RNG aspect to it just encouraged me to track more puzzle lines, the narrative being delivered in pieces just made it more interesting and synergized with the gameplay, etc.

Narrative puzzle nerds really eating good this year

The ambition vs focus angle is even more pronounced in the sports genre IMO. I hear so many players say "I just want a good soccer/basketball/whatever game" and that's exactly what Rematch is. No big licensing deals or flashy campaign, just a really tight and polished experience.

I was so annoyed when I first found out about these. You made what was essentially the epilogue/important context to Silver's story locked behind an inaccessible event?!?

I guess the alternative is them not existing but it definitely isn't ideal.

I'm about 15 hours in and it still feels like I've only discovered about a third of what this game has to offer. The gameplay tweaks you unlock as it goes on keep it fresh, it's just so uniquely engaging.

Oh I feel this, they're both such slogs to get through but I put myself through it everytime for that STORY. Seeing your companions in their dreams in the fade and getting those character moments is awesome

Same with Shar's trials, like I can't just NOT do them, its Shadowheart's journey!

The world being a cohesive space is easily the best part about it. Being able to see certain areas from other levels? The map screen being a brochure style guide? NPCs making reference to other areas on the island? It's SO GOOD

I feel SEEN

Also as a non-american I'm embarrassed to admit how much of my knowledge about U.S geography comes from fumbling my way through random NYT crosswords
