Capitalists seek to maximize profits. The flip side of this is cost minimization. Wages are a cost. Many things that’d help working people are also a cost.

There literally is a fixed pile of wealth. The size of it can change but wealth needs to be representative of goods and services in the economy, which is always finite, even if it changes.
People are poor because they cannot access the wealth. Why can’t they access it? Because of the rich.

they haven’t figured it out because what you’re describing would never work. you would need the sprinkler lines themselves to be heated somehow. any water that freezes in the pipes will expand and crack them and destroy the system. it’s a nice thought though.

animal agriculture is a disgusting & inhumane practice and if you’re shocked that this barbarism extends to human beings, it’s because you have put your head in the sand about what is done so you can eat meat. it is a practice that breeds cruelty and psychopathy and there is no kind way of doing it.

it’s not as funny but the real solution is speed cameras all over the place with fines that are means tested based on your tax return so even if you make a lot of money it super sucks to get one.

say we do those things. then eventually the rich use the wealth they still have to lobby, bribe and manufacture consent to undo those changes. it’s inevitable when you allow extreme accumulation of wealth in the hands of a few that they’ll abuse it at everyone else’s expense. see: the 20th century

they copied many of my partner’s wedding dress designs (hers are made in California) and even stole her marketing photos to sell their cheap knock offs. her business started in 2016 and is not large.

granted this is a municipal tax rather than a federal one so perhaps not the most appropriate place to try to create an inequality-addressing tax on the wealthy but i feel like not enough people appreciate the concept of how we should take wealth away from the rich because it’s important to do so.

counterpoint: we SHOULD take money away from the rich. simply to prevent them from having it. reducing inequality should be the highest priority if we want an equitable + sustainable society. 1% on income isn’t much considering how actual rich ppl make money on asset appreciation rather than income.

2% on income *over* $1 mil would mean that only $100k is taxed 2%, for someone earning $1.1 mil.
