Fair enough. I grew up in Rapture country and one of 'em scammed his own church out of about $8 million in a Ponzi Scheme for Jesus. After that, I started thinking of them as marks in search of their next fleecing.

Same for A Christmas Carol. I read it every year, but when I tried Dickens' Big Stuff, it was indigestible.

People loathe [a certain writer/ director] now for being a sex pest, but his DVD commentaries on cutting scenes that don't serve the story are still my guides.

I tried to read the The Old Curiosity Shop, but when Dickens wrote a whole paragraph about the plucky boy taking a single bite of meat, my brain split into two factions: A) Charlie's being paid by the word, and B) I'm bored. Both factions won and Charlie went back to the library.

Apparently Misco produced three toys with the same base, but with different bodies on top--nascarish, pickup, and wankpanzer. The only online retailer I found selling them doesn't even allow a choice of flavor. I think you're right about the end of the grinder. "Toys and sausages."

Reading the history of cunieform tonight suggests to me that COBOL is the modern cuneiform, surviving not on its merit but on the sheer mind-boggling mass of existing code and the moon-shot scale of any effort to replace it without shattering the logistical foundations of the financial universe.
