It's an open public area surrounded by shops. It'd be better if they closed off the road through it more often and it doesn't hold a candle to the neighborhood my brother lives in in France but it's still pretty good.

The one near me works pretty well, they have a farmers market every Saturday and do movie nights on a big outdoor screen in the summer. There's definitely still some corporate artificiality to it, but it's a lot better than not having one.
