Here in the north of Scotland, memory tells me we had less rain and more snow from December to February 30, 40, 50 and even 60 years ago. Of course recollections may vary, as someone special once said. ❄️

In the Army we had the four ring rule. If it wasn't answered within four rings it meant the individual was away, or too busy, or couldn't be arsed, so we had to hang up. In NI it was downgraded to the two ring rule.
