Or even just another TTRPG. Someone says they love D&D except for combat and you suggest a game with a similar theme but less combat-focused? So many people will shut you down immediately like "No, I only like D&D." Fere, you're deliberately avoiding engaging with the mechanics; you do not like D&D.

Love how they took a system that was designed to have multiple redundancies to prevent exactly this kind of thing from even being possible and then fucked it.

I'M being inflexible? I'm not telling you what you should do; you're the one telling me I'm going about things wrong. I'm simply explaining a problem I have experienced many times. Establishing up-front that the game is RAW doesn't work, because people simply don't know they're using house rules.
