There are many girls who share Rita's story. A third of women in Africa experience sexual and gender-based (SGBV) violence during their lifetime. Many do not receive justice. SBGV heightens the risk of HIV infection, unintended pregnancies and mental trauma. tiko.org/2025/06/19/i...

We cannot ignore the systemic issues that continue to fail girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa. The ‘Triple Threat’ of teen pregnancy, HIV and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) puts many lives at risk but these do not exist in a vacuum. Read more: tiko.org/2025/05/29/b...
