We recently found that the herb and in particular the ground moss layer, play an important role in the N cycle in temperate forests by contributing to N reduction. So next time walking through a forest, remember to take a look down to your feet as well!

I am happy to announce that a new paper on bryophyte ecology has just been published:
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

We show that bryophyte traits cluster by growth form, and that they are functionally very sensitive to small-scale changes in water-, light-, and nutrient availability.

Daring. Daring to try. Sometimes that’s the hardest part of a #scientific career: daring to dream big, to submit that proposal, to believe in your idea.
❤️ @nanitundra.bsky.social did it. She’s now at CREAF with a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, one of Europe’s most competitive #postdoc grants ✨👇

🌿 We need to raise the profile of #bryophyte ecological research 🌿 (and also a bryophyte emoji!)

In this opinion piece, we as a group of #ECRs outline barriers in bryophyte research and provide recommendations to overcome them across institutional levels & disciplines.

Bryophytes are definitely overlooked - not only in daily life but also in vegetation ecology. Happy to contribute to raising awareness for the second largest group of land plants.
