In July, the EU had already sanctioned several individuals responsible for “Storm-1516”. The move was justified on the grounds of a “continued hybrid campaign” against the EU and its member states, including sabotage, cyberattacks, and interference in elections.

The campaign is still active: most recently, at the end of November, a false claim about an alleged plane crash involving chancellor Friedrich Merz was spread.
