This is getting bananas

TKL has done some sketchy stuff but this is a nothingburger
February 6, 2026 at 7:25 PM
Lol, no. Most of those folks aren barely even voting age, if that
February 4, 2026 at 10:03 PM
If you're a fan of representative democracy, you are antifa too
February 4, 2026 at 9:23 PM
"Antifa" is just a shortening of "Antifascist." There will be individuals & groups that try to assert it as their own, and other groups that try to use it describe particular specific groups, but thats just malicious co-opting. Almost everyone i know is Antifa by the true definition of the term

Their gang status or lack thereof is irrelevant; as Chief Day said "This information, in no way, is meant to disparage or to condone or support or agree with any of the actions that occurred yesterday"
February 3, 2026 at 9:40 PM
Quick antifa purity test: do you like fascism?
If no, you are antifa. Maybe even your own personal president of it!
If yes, you are not antifa

Another distinction: national guard is not the same as ICE. Natl guard traditionally has been used for crisis mgmt, e.g. mobilization of emgcy supplies after hurricanes. I've met decent ppl that were NG members. ICE is used to damage families and communities. Big difference
February 2, 2026 at 2:39 AM
I hear ya, but Chief Day has voiced opposition to ICE. if they're going to be stopped, we'll need supporting from a broad spectrum of allies, incl those we dont typically agree with. Maybe that's PPB, maybe that's Tillis. Idk, we'll see. DSA can't do it alone
February 2, 2026 at 1:04 AM
Your lack of understanding of supremacy clause is stunning. Portland will never be able to successfully prosecute against fed agency for non-compliance w/ a city law (that doesn't even exist yet). Plenty to pop em on, masks ain't it
February 1, 2026 at 10:45 PM
Good point re: history. US and USSR had plenty of disagreement but banded together w UK and others to defeat Nazis. Need the same spirit of collaboration w/ ICE. not the time for purity tests
February 1, 2026 at 10:40 PM
Sounds good. While you work on getting the police union to come around on masks for PPB, the other factions within the city are ready to unite and collaborate in the fight against ICE
February 1, 2026 at 8:26 PM
Read that article: you are misrepresenting what he said. None of your colleagues nor the mayor's nor chief of police support ICE. Suggesting that they do is harmful to the cause. bsky.app/profile/tim-...
It is extraordinarily rare for the police chief, the entire council, the mayor, the 'revoke the permit' camp, the governor, and probably 95%+ of the populace to share the same sentiment but this is one of those times. Definitely can get more done thru collaboration to get ICE out
February 1, 2026 at 8:00 PM
That said, DA Vasquez should in the hot seat. Legal system is most viable avenue for meaningful "sand in the gears"
February 1, 2026 at 7:43 PM
Even if we had a mask ban, ICE wouldn't observe it. Please, use this moment to unite opposition to ICE rather than sow division among citizens, council, mayor, and city depts, incl PPB, all of whom are firmly against ICE and have stated as much. Collaborators get things done
February 1, 2026 at 7:41 PM
🙁
January 30, 2026 at 7:17 PM
It's truly "revoke the permit" in a different dress. On the surface, it appears the most appealing feature of the letter for its authors would be to cast mayor's office as scapegoat, so they can shift scrutiny from "revoke the permit" camp.
January 29, 2026 at 11:53 PM
Unclear what problem this solves. ICE disregards landlords or city govs. They can eminent domain any property they want even if they did care about landlords under pressure from city. Even if they did heed, per Morrillo's point a few days ago, making them take ppl to Tacoma isn't exactly a victory.
January 29, 2026 at 11:51 PM
How will you verify respondents' status/veracity though? I fear the outcome of the survey will be cited as scientific when the data collection isn't legitimate from a social science perspective

January 28, 2026 at 3:29 PM
Ok. Seems "firm" is a bit overstated given <20% council participation
January 28, 2026 at 4:33 AM
? It's not from council. It's from 2/12 councilors?
January 28, 2026 at 3:52 AM
I read it, but the recommendations, even if implemented, are all strictly academic/toothless in practice as I believe you already know
January 28, 2026 at 3:39 AM
What tools does the mayor's office have that council does not in this scenario? Tools that would actually effect positive outcomes? Earnestly asking. ICE can and will do whatever they want regardless and it feels like this is just a ploy to throw mayor'soffice under the bus
January 28, 2026 at 2:57 AM
I dunno, feels like this is just playing politics. I think we all know that ICE disregards laws/resolutions/fines from any government, most especially local liberal ones. By sending this letter, the council can shift blame to exec branch, but either way the outcome is the same: ICE not giving a shit
