In “So Long and Thanks for all the Fish”, there’s a character who decided the whole world was insane, and opted to wall them out.

There was a sign that made this character come to that conclusion.

I’m reminded of that bit of the book for no particular reason.

I don't have an opinion here as to the merits, legal or political, of the federal government's intervention in the upcoming Supreme Court of Canada hearing as to whether or not there should be constraints on a legislature's ability to invoke s. 33 (the notwithstanding clause) of the Charter. But...

(🧵) I would expect government correspondence, especially when it is being made public (in this case, by the Premier of Alberta on the hellsite formerly known as Twitter), would be carefully checked for errors. Alas, a significant number of those were not caught in this letter.

The Canadian Femicide Observatory tracks women murdered in Canada. Every woman listed is a tragedy and a call for action.

Beyond the list of those murdered are those who survived attacks, all who are victims of violence against women.

Maryse Laganière, 25

Worked in the engineering school's finance department. Had gotten married 3 months before her murder. Her husband had come to the school to pick her up that night only to be met by the chaos, was anxiously scanning the faces of survivors hoping to find her.
