You know the Pope couplet responded to by Squire:
Nature and nature’s laws lay hid in night
God said, Let Newton be! and all was light.
It did not last: the Devil howling “Ho!
Let Einstein be!” restoring the status quo.

Traffic was so rare we would throw water on the road in the evening so that the frost would give us a skating rink the next morning.

You remind me that when one of my children was very young and had nightmares. I comforted him saying “It’s alright. There’s nobody here”. He got more frightened and replied “If there’s nobody here then who’se talking to me”.

Would love you to do a podcast on this. Looked up the book but way too expensive for a retired teacher to buy.

Fantastic. I am so old that I remember when the prevailing view was we would never detect neutrinos directly. I feel like “Nunc dimittis servum tuum Domine…”

Try being a teacher. I meet past pupils who are in their seventies! How do you think I feel?

Does ‘woke’ just mean anybody whi disagreed with right wing opinions? This is a genuine question. I don’t understand what people mean by ‘woke’. I am a Christian and as far as I can see to be ‘woke’ simply means to take Jesus seriously. Am I wrong?

My memory of Ireland in the 90s means, despite everything, this century is a great success.

A friend of mine says that Drink like Scissors and Trousers is a word that has no singular case.

That sounds like a brilliant idea so long as it doesn’t distract you from telling us what happens to Ruhlin.

Was it Chesterton who said “Let not the perfect be the enemy of the good”?

Have you come upon ‘The Chronicles of Prydain’ by Lloyd Alexander. The first book, The Book of Three, was published in 1964. A marvellous high fantasy series for children to young adults but I devoured it as a full adult when my nephews begged me to read it.

Can you explain, please?

Really looking forward to reading it. Let us know when we can preorder. My favourite bookshop is @kennysbookshop.bsky.social so it would be great if I could place my order there. Good luck with the rest of the publishing process!
