Perhaps. Certainly Germany is already relatively good at supporting ECRs, but it could be better, and I can't vouch for other European countries. Flagship ideas might have better PR optics but I think increasing early stage funding would improve the foundation for the science community overall.

Another example of rich-get-richer. We didn't need big money to support (or attract to the EU) the big boys who already have it. We needed more low-level seed or supporting funds for ECRs/ scientists who are struggling to keep their employees paid.

The last one nailed it. But really not much has changed in ten years. Just exacerbated existing problems

Absolutely it's real. My dad used to catch guys like these all the time. It's a big one for sure!

Terrifying if you're not expecting it though!

Shouldn't there be a clear conflict-of-interest statement on this article?

Would very much like to! My boss is one of the keynotes, I'm trying to convince her.

Are you going to this @tamara-hverdeja.bsky.social ?

Great interview Tamara. I also miss those calm, quiet, snowy nights in the deep of winter in Umeå!

Ironically enough, your response here has a cadence reminiscent of ChatGPT...

Congratulations! Both papers look super interesting. We will have to take some of the latter paper into account when dealing with our heat 'stress' assays

And yes we have sugar in our plates 😆 apparently memory doesn't operate without it, although we haven't looked at this.

I believe our lab did some experiments on (memory) gene expression in dissected seedlings (before my time). Memory was supposedly organ-autonomous, with photosynthetic tissues displaying the largest response. But that was just targeted analysis/qPCR, afaik we haven't done it transcriptome-wide

Hi Kelsey! I'm interested, but I have some questions, I'll send you a message.

Congratulations Yan. That didn't take long!

Congratulations to all the authors! Fantastic story and a really valuable advance in the field.

You should take a trip to New Zealand and spend some time in the native Bush. High proportion of full-size tree ferns like Dicksonia squarrosa

How'd they get JD Vance on the show

European science institutes seem to be rubbing their hands together in glee about this influx. But there aren't enough jobs for European scientists as it is, I fail to see how any of this can be positive in the long run.
