terrible angle, but that's door signage for cafe unido at the stacks in sw. announced their plans a while ago & it looks like they'll now be in the "colette" building.

first stand alone coffee shop in the stacks, but you can already get coffee drinks at dc central kitchen cafe across the street.
mostly brick courtyard area between buildings with cafe seating and planters. windows of residential units are seem on a taller building in the background.

He Xiangyu b. 1986, Liaoning, China / lives and works in Beijing, China A Barrel of Dregs of Coca-Cola, 2009, Coca-Cola resin, metal and glass, 82 1/2 x 39 3/8 x 39 3/8 in. (210 x 100 x 100 cm), acquired in 2011 Cola Project ran from the beginning of 2009 to the end of 2011. In the beginning, it was only a ton (1000 liters) of Coca-Cola I purchased from a big supermarket. Then I worked in the simple "kitchen" built in the studio started, while at the same time I also drew a large amount of drafts and carried out many different relevant experiments. At the end of 2009 I decided to move the worksite to the city of Dandong in Liaoning Province (where China borders with North Korea), and hired 10 industrial workers to build about a dozen or so 150 x 120 cm iron woks and a simple rain-proof shelter, and also purchased over 10 tons of wood to start the core work of the Cola Project. Over a period of a year and a half, we worked relentlessly. The 10 workers worked a total of over 6000 hours, boiled up 127 tons of Coca Cola, and extracted over 40 cubic meters of Coca Cola residuum. What "happily surprised" me at the same time was, during the process of "extraction", the police, fire, border patrol, and environmental protection departments all came to investigate me and collect evidence, and I also paid some fines. -He Xiangyu

fascinating! and one of the only pieces i really liked at the new show at the rubell museum, "material witness." on display through fall 2026.

it's official. dc streetcar is in the sunset phase. the last day will be march 31, 2026. barely a decade of revenue service on just one 2.1 mile route.

starting january 4, the streetcar will only operate monday-saturday, with 20 minute headways. weekday service 6am-10pm. saturday 8am-10pm.

navy yard news: really looks as if basebowl on half street is permanently closed. i really wanted to get dinner there.

on a whim my backup was to try wonder -- now open at 135 n st se. sort of not really a food hall. 21 restaurant concepts (several of which are pizza). pick up or delivery.

local holiday market in navy yard! tingey plaza just opened this afternoon. mix of jewelry, body goods, food, sports, and a lot in between. plus an outdoor area with food & drink. open tonight until 9pm and then this weekend 11-6 each day. 101 tingey street se near the usdot hq.
