I’m having a day. So let’s not talk about privacy, let’s talk about art.

I now allocate a tutorial to critical ai literacy, in the weeks before a major essay is due. Most students know the slop is slop, and quickly learn it is planet-boiling slop. If unis can not educate students about ai what the fuck is the point is my view.

University caught out using AI to wrongly accuse students of cheating with AI
An Australian university has accused thousands of its students of cheating with artificial intelligence. The problem? Many have done nothing wrong.

Bennet, whom we met on her first walk ever. Fenchurch and some other little fluffy dogs taught her how to run and do zoomies.

For the millionth time: generative video is not a technology that should be available to the public.

Certainly not as a SAAS service, and definitely not OSS models without any guardrails.

We’re about to be inundated with propaganda and CSAM.

Sora is not the real problem here. The real problem is that in 12, at most 24 months, there will be a Sora clone from Tencent or Alibaba that is just as good and can be run by anybody with a 5099, at which point everyone in society needs to rapidly agree to treat all digital video as fake, period.

Encouraging result from the Basic Income world.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

We are, of course, shocked that the plagiarism machine that we trained on stolen copyrighted content did a plagiarism of copyrighted content.

really enjoying all the people trying to explain the bible to the pope today
Pope Leo XIV
Today, more than ever, we must return to the heart, the center of feeling and emotion, the locus of freedom. Though it includes reason, the heart transcends and transforms it. Only by returning to the heart can we undergo a true ecological conversion that transforms our personal

I reject this whole heartedly. What you fail to see Mr Pope, the Bible says

The tech ethics community has been talking about this for years, and the time has arrived. It is now trivial to make video misinformation and disinformation that is indistinguiable from the real thing to the casual viewer, with tech that is easily accessible. The harm this will cause is incalculable

I told OpenAI's Sora to make a video showing "Body cam footage of cops arresting a dark skinned man in a department store." It took less than a minute.

Are you guys just forming one big robot like Voltron or something?

"We made a misinformation machine - hooray for us".

Just no inkling of the profound damage this will do.

OpenAI employees are very excited about how well their new AI tool can create fake videos of people doing crimes and have definitely thought through all the implications of this
