Support for braille learning and innovation is vital. Organisations like the Braillists Foundation play a key role in building skills, confidence, and community around braille. I wouldn't be able to read Braille without them providing the training:

Ny multiline braille display, the DotPad X, has been transformative. It lets me read spreadsheets with real context. Rows, columns, relationships. When auditory overload hits, braille gives me another way in. My reading speed is not fast, and that is fine. Choice is what matters

At first, it felt slow. Audio was quicker. Easier.
But audio alone has limits.

Braille gives structure.
Spelling. Layout. Context.

Just as print represents language through letters, braille uses a six-dot cell to encode it. English, maths, music, code. That distinction matters, because braille is about literacy, not format.

I started learning braille later in life.
Not out of curiosity. Out of necessity.
