There are three faces carved into this stone, but only two names visible. It’s like that there’s at least one more line of the inscription than what’s visible above the ground.

The voyage that John Boit was preparing the Mac for was a secret and illegal voyage to transport enslaved captives from Africa to Cuba: “only 206 of 244 enslaved captives survived the Atlantic crossing and almost one third of the survivors were children.”

I enjoy that the italic text paraphrases Psalm 77 in a way that makes it feel even more ominous.
