Fowler had it, but Hayes chipped it right onto the Checkers' stick.

Sadly, they don't want to go over the top; they want to annex the top.

Doug Ford is as corrupt as they come. This is all for show. Someone will slip him a few million bucks, and he'll revert to his usual MAGA self.

It's perfect. It means nothing, but the Yanks eat it up. Costs us nothing, but the Trump administration can prance around like they've accomplished something. Every parent understands this dynamic.

And this one would be very different. US manufacturing would crater, and that insurgency would target Americans at home on a massive scale.
What a sad, senseless thing to consider.

The US is very good at invading countries, but they always expect no consequences. Which is they eventually give up and lose. Canadians understand that, no matter what, we are in for a world of pain. Are Americans prepared for a deep recession and a violent insurgency that spills over their border?

The problem is that legacy media had two assets: their brand and their real estate (offices, presses, etc...).The previous Con government opened the door to foreign ownership, so US right-wingers swept in, gutted the staff, sold the real estate, and left us with propaganda factories.

I don't think Americans appreciate just how pissed Canadians are with the 51st state comments. Even without tariffs, that rhetoric has lit a fire.

Don't let him know that we previously agreed to most of it. Except for the "czar'. We're having a good laugh about that one.

The Con surge was fueled by hatred of Trudeau and Carbon Pricing. Both are gone in six weeks when Mark Carney becomes Prime Minister. And with the political landscape shifting overnight, PP looks like the wrong man for the moment. He is still favoured to win, but his majority may be slipping away.

Siberian. My daughter is very allergic, and the Siberians are hypoallergenic enough that the two can live together.

Canada and Ukraine signed a security agreement last year. The money is already committed.
And a Canadian government has much more spending leeway than a US one.

Sorry about that! Should have been more precise: in this day and age, most politicians who survive are unlikable people. I have worked to elect good people, mostly women, who bailed after one or two terms because of thr intense violent rhetoric thrown at them. Good people now find other avenues.

You're not going to like this reference:
My reply is PET's first election slogan: "Reason over Passion". Most politicians are unlikable people. So I only focus on what they do. Everything else is, well, Twitter.

I'm not crazy about him myself. I just prefer his government's policies to any legitimate alternative. And the "Fuck Trudeau" hashtag got me going because I see that shit was created and promoted by people I really, really loathe.
January 7, 2025 at 12:36 AM
Well, he was the leader of the party that had the confidence of the house. So, yes, a correct term.
We obviously disagree. So be it. But please don't reduce politics and history to simple personal hatred. It only helps the worst among us.
January 7, 2025 at 12:34 AM
I'll leave it with this: the right-wing playbook for the last decade has been to harness the immense energy of social media to focus an Orwelian hate on anyone who is evenly vaguely progressive. Trudeau got Clintoned. And both were easy marks because they have unlikable qualities.
