It's all about sleepless nights spent fretting over "difficult decisions", you see. About fiscal rectitude and "living within our means". Let's hear no intemperate talk of cruelty or cuts, of injustice, inequality or exploitation. Let's hear no talk of death tolls. We're strictly impartial here.

Above all, we must be flexible! Not tied down by outmoded notions of who is and is not an appropriate target for harassment, bullying or threats of sanctions.

This is not coercing people into exploitation. It's "tackling inactivity". Naturally the inactive rich will remain untouched, but you can't have everything.

But it's all for the greater good. There's "the growth jigsaw" to consider, you see. Of which attacking the unemployed is an "important" part. Plus "overall the emphasis is on improving services to jobseekers", such as letting them know what a sanction is and when they can expect one.

"Difficult decisions" is a good headline from the BBC, because it reminds us the true victims of benefit cuts are the people inflicting them.
