Running the emulator at 200MHz is a definite improvement - it's only 2 seconds slower than the real thing for the primes up to 10,000.

Sunday afternoon benchmarking session. A real MZ-700 vs my emulator. The emulator is currently 20% or so too fast when running on a 220MHz Pi Pico. Should be easy enough to slow down!!

I seem to be getting close to having a reasonable #M700 #emulator running. There are some oddities that I need to look into (e.g. keyboard handling for monitor in ROM seems different to monitor in RAM) and I need to retrieve my real MZ-700 to check various timings.

Sorted out the display of the upper 256 characters today. Took longer to figure out than it should have ...

It's a start! Hacked the monitor into my mz80k/a code and it runs up. Now comes the painstaking stuff - keyboard mappings, colour, clock accuracy etc etc etc ... #RetroComputing #Sharp #MZ700

A photo from yesterday, of the MZ-80K at the National Museum of Computing @tnmoc.bsky.social. The cursor keys are green. On mine (and every other MZ-80K I've seen) they're yellow. I wonder why this one is so odd? The blue keys are also closer to turquoise. Left in the sunlight too long? #Sharptember

Damn. I'm going to have to dig out the 1985 source code of my unfinished Pegasus emulator and finish it. #RetroComputing

The early Sharp MZ series machines were "clean". Unlike most other 1980s micros you loaded the programming language you wanted to use from tape or disk into RAM. This gave great flexibility, but about a 3 minute wait on a tape based MZ-80K before you could write 10 PRINT "Hello Word!" #Sharptember

I found this in my files. You'll have to imagine the CAD program in the middle of the window, but it neatly shows/describes the aspects of the window manager we used. This is from the GENIX 2.0 port, but I'm pretty sure nothing changed in the 42nix version. (My handwriting was legible in 1985!)

If you don't have room for a real Sharp MZ-80K or MZ-80A, there's always my Raspberry Pico based emulator for both of these machines! Here it is running in 80K mode playing Sharp's Space Invader program. #Sharptember
