Husband, father, pastor.. I've spent much of my life trying to do the Jesus thing. I'm still trying to figure most of it out. I love sci-fi/fantasy stuff, working on cars, cooking, and finding ways to make the world a little bit better on the way
Imagine if Hamas has called the taking of American hostages an administrative error

its worth noting, in the book of Acts, Luke refers to Cornelius as a devout and God-fearing man. Then he tells us what that looks like. He is devoted to prayer and gave generously to those in need.

Any form of "Christian" nation we might ever come up with that doesn't care for the poor is a lie.

what if we sent more time trying to discern the will of God rather than asking God to bless what we have discerned for ourselves

When our political leaders and public servants are being controlled through fear, then the public good has been abandoned.

Throughout history, this has been the case when evil rises to power.

it seems Elon might me the human version of Ultron. And while he might think that's great, its disastrous for the rest of us.

Love is hard sometimes.

Sometimes, it doesn't feel the way I want it to even when its what I need.

Sometimes, I don't express it the way someone else really needs it and it weighs on me.

But there is hope in love. To keep trying, giving, and receiving. that one day I might do love really well.

I know the answer, but the answer isn't good enough for some people. Choosing to put others before one's self requires a bigger love that is willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of all.
But for many, that's just not worth it.
And for too many, that call themselves Christians, its revealing

It changes things when we believe that what we do matters

What you do today, and how you do it, matters.

Live towards love.

It's worth it. And so are you.

what if the love of Jesus was really just about love ..

no extras, no boundaries, no imposed beliefs..

just love...

I'm preparing worship materials for Sunday and reading through this prayer that bids us "help us lay down our weapons".
And I pause to mourn.
A great many Christians have made their politics a weapon to be wielded against others, and the violence of it is horrendous.

At some point, some people are going to choose what they want to believe about who you are rather than simply loving you as you are. It will come as judgment, disdain, and eventually hatred.
As much as it hurts, you are still worth being loved. You still matter.

The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.

May there somehow be space in your day for the type of contentment that leads towards gratitude. Things don't have to be wonderful. Take a pause, breathe deep. And let a moment of grace be a reminder that you are worthy of this moment of grace, you are loved.

Jesus is all the reason I need to stand against Christian nationalism. In the Gospels (John 6), when they tried to force Jesus to be king, withdrew from them. It's significant to consider that if Jesus didn't want that power for himself, we should ask why so many are so determined to give it to him.

A lot of people are fond of the statement, the world needs more Jesus.
They usually seem to me everyone else needs to get their life in line with what I believe.

I've come to believe a world that needs more Jesus starts with less judgment and more compassion.

Liturgically, today is Christ the King Sunday in many churches. Jesus will be hailed.
The problem is that a great many are glad Jesus will be King one day, but aren't willing to live like he is King today.
It's quite evident in the allegiance we have given to money and politics and the loss of love

Our affluence teaches us we don't have enough when we have far more than we need. It allows us to believe we are poor despite our wealth. And it blinds us to the actual needs of the poor who we are called to help if we actually follow Jesus.
