writer, musician, enemy of the state by whomever it's made. Queer in at least two senses. :)
Devo, MERRY SOMETHING TO YOU (2010/2025 Black Friday picture disc). Essential? No. Fun and festive? Yes. :) Four versions - b side similar art in green.

An album full of love songs. But even by late Jonathan standards, his love songs are a bit warped. Songs of love about vampires, and of course an ode to Irish identity (faith and be-goy-rah).

Black Friday haul. Talking Heads, TENTATIVE DECISIONS lp and 7", demos and live, Artistics demos on the 7"!; Bratmobile, REAL JANELLE/PEEL SESSIONS 12"; Jonathan Richman, YOU MUST ASK THE HEART 1995 reissue; Devo picture disc MERRY SOMETHING TO YOU.

There is some history with the front cover of COUNTRY LIFE by Roxy Music, so here's the back. Probably the last record in their canon that had dissonance and the lingering Velvets affection. By SIREN, things became much smoother and Bryan-Ferry-with-guests.

Dolly Mixture, DEMONSTRATION TAPES 2xlp (1984/2019 reissue). Super-catchy, slightly sardonic power-pop/pop-punk. Clear Shangri-la's love, but with instruments played by the singers and much more intricate harmonies. 1979-1983 recordings (they had other singles that are not on this).

Luke Haines' book FREAKS OUT! It K*lls some Rock Stars, resurrects others, blasphemes against the false gods of the pantheon, and is generally an opinionated thrill. :)

A rainy day, so posted something bright and gay.

front and back cover of John Waters' Christmas single for this year, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS b/w A PIG LATIN VISIT FROM ST NICHOLAS. Same record - not two separate ones. The first single he has put out with music, albeit sort of Hal Wilneresque sample stuff.

21:19 of thick bass chords, occasional flashes of beauty, and dissonantly confused clusters of notes, fitting the theme of a piece about German war survivors essentially imprisoned after WW I to avoid having the country look weak. DEFORMATIONS, Diamanda Galas, piano only.

Nice millennial trio from Port Hawkesbury, NS ride a wave of mutilation from the Bay of Fundy into a heady brew of power-pop, garagey grit and 70s swagger. :)

On this, Joni's 82nd, listening to HEJIRA DEMOS (which also includes some tracks from DON JUAN'S RECKLESS DAUGHTER in embryonic form). Voice, guitar, and one piano/voice demo. Such flow and charm.

1988 orig/2023 reissue with extra tracks. Avant jazz folks squawl away as Ginsberg raves and poeticizes over the noise.

Avant-funk sister act. For the most part, did better life-wise than the Wigginses or the Brontes, other families with some compulsion or encouragement from parents

Elegant paranoia, self-pity, cruel lashing out. Hardly suprising given the sort of things Mr. Costello was going through at the time.

One of 500 copies. Arrived with unfortunate timing. In five days, the 12" of Ghost Rider, a Suicide re-make, in the same number of pressings, is out, which will be even more eerie in scheduling. Soft Cell, FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE IN SECOND HAND LOVE, Giorgio Moroder cover.

In the Berkeley Hills in the early autumn days,
where bears are warned of but never chill.
Never? I saw a bear, and this bear is seen
and we do things in the woods -
not what you think, you see.
I would say more, but the mouth has its fill.
We are tall along the ground – he is tall in many ways.

A colourful, festive and informative retrospective on Dr. Davis' art, music, writing, etc. Short but oh so sweet.

FANTASTIC STAR.1996/2023 reissue, with the new version replacing tracks. Very much a drug record; you can hear the Sigue Sigue Sputnik in Neal X's contributions. Nothing but an electro-addled mess for anyone else. But it's Marc Almond, so it's darkly camp and decadent.

8/1990, four track. Sam on guitar, keyboard bass and tambourine machine; me on vocals. Screwed up words, as was doing from memory.

4. All Women Are Birches
5. Fart Accompli
6. All Tomorrow's Panties
7. You're Gonna Bill That Girl
8. The Perfect Hiss
9. You Seeded Me
10.You Better Slop Around

"What is normal to you, young man, is to us, asinine." Endora, upon first meeting Darrin on BEWITCHED (that whole episode is full of lines that could be read as about being queer in a straight world (in multiple senses of each word)).
