That is so well put, but yeah this point bugs me too. It takes some sympathy and the ability to withhold criticism to understand that the cultural tradition of a faith is not the same as its dogma or holy text.
Non-Abrahamic religions are the best example as they don’t really have dogmas!

Of all the days to have DOMS, Boxing Day is probably the best, nothing to do but sit around and eat choccies.
Good luck!

Not the point of your thread but Dawkins always reminds me of the joke about a comedian in Northern Ireland announcing he was an atheist only to be asked if he was a Protestant atheist or a catholic atheist.
Coz he is definitely a Protestant atheist.

I was once the winner of the ‘number 1 buyer of Sainsbury’s Own fajitas kits’ for my local store and felt absurdly proud for at least a week afterwards

Worth pointing out that Jesus talks way, way more about hell and damnation than anything in the Tanakh, in much more explicit terms. The NT as a collection looks to the end of the world imminently.
You just don’t find that in the Tanakh, unless you’re really, really squinting.

To be fair, if my job was cleaning up after a nervous rhinoceros in a previous life I’d probably still feel queasy a few incarnations later.

I read it as an undergrad and I don’t think any ancient work has had such an emotional impact on me since. As a modern you want to yell at her ‘say the words, sprinkle the incense, go live your life with your child!’
But then you listen to her values and her voice. It’s so moving.

Congratulations! Although I misread the description as the ‘authorised biography’ of Offa and was very impressed.
