Legacy media have little to offer, anyway.

There's a Timothy Henry who's evidently a famous cardiac surgeon, and Google Scholar is always suggesting that I'm the publisher of his articles. 😂

Looks like someone with no neck.

I recognize the root for 'fear' as it shows up in the slang quantifier 'aimar' 'scary.'

"...because what you call some group also reflects your relationship to them in a way that's not true for 'all, some, etc.'" <-- I like this observation very much!

Ahhh, gotcha. Yes, the semantic extension seems reasonable to me. It's also pretty neat!

Otherwise, that's new to me. It's like a non-transnumeral transnumeral.

Can you rule our that that there aren't two different original forms of the dual-general? May just be syncretism?

Something to occupy my time over the holidays! :)

I certainly hope so. I check this like once a week maybe and there's rarely anything new. Too many people jumped the gun leaving Twitter.

I was told multiple times that my 619 page dictionary of Ventureno (14 years in the making) would mean nothing for my academic career. Everyone who told me this was right. Ironic, as it's likely to be one thing I've written that will outlive me by centuries.

So f*cking true.

I curate my experience and weed out people who post things that aren't academic, both here and on Twitter. Takes a bit of time, but, at a point, I only see things that are related to linguistics.

Living with depression is a life-long challenge. I'm always happy when I see a fellow sufferer taking steps to treat himself. Unfortunately, no treatment is fully effective all the time. Behavioral therapy can help weather those storms, but damn it's tough. Biggest professional hugs.

I'm sure phonetic reduction in unstressed position is the explanation for the collapse of 'ye' and 'you.' It may also explain the later irregular use of 'thee' and 'thou.'
November 22, 2023 at 8:44 PM
If I recall, at the time, 'thou' and 'thee' were used inconsistently for subject and object, but I think it was far more consistent than 'ye' and 'you.' This indicates that, before the 2SG saw a sharp reduction in use, the 2PL was already collapsing w/ regard to syntactic roles.

As far as I can recall from our (admittedly limited) statistical investigation at the time, thou and thee were being used in expected proportions. I assume that's true for the possessive form as well, but that wasn't an area of interest at the time.
November 21, 2023 at 12:58 AM
You can see in Shakespeare's writing (or the writing attributed to him), that breakdown of the use of the forms is already present. You can see a reduction of the use of thou/thee, and ye/you used inconsistently as S&O in their place.
