Short update, I generalised the shader and entity creation process in opengl and added some code to resize the window. All programmed on my phone without a keyboard in the spare hours I have between plans 😂. It's even worse since I'm learning opengl at the same time, but I'm getting better at it!

I have yet to figure out a way to debug anything, but I can print whatever I want to the browser window.

I would not recommend this setup without a tablet and a bluetooth keyboard, but it works surprisingly well with a decent keyboard app and some patience!

Of course no one is perfect and we travelled to get here too, but looking at how people are acting it's like the fact that the winters are almost 10 degrees warmer now than 20 years ago isn't even a concern to most people, and that's disheartening.

Meanwhile, every shopping center is packed full of people scrambling to consume as much as possible, and they make sure that they get their unsustainable fish, ham and beef for their swedish tables. The roads are so packed full of cars running on 1,3€/L gas that it takes 15 minutes just to park.

When I was a kid there was 20-30cm snow every winter, even in the cities, and almost every lake was frozen over enough to skate on. Nowadays even the skiing resorts in the northern half of the country are full of artificial snow and ice skating is mostly done on top of cooling pipes.

18. I definitely could have had a much better experience with the first school, but everything considered I'm very happy and proud of myself! Thanks for reading 😄🚗

17. When I passed the test, the examiner literally printed my license in the car and handed it to me after shaking it for a few seconds like a polaroid. From this moment on I could even drive home from the test which is a really nice thing they do in Germany.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
16. Before you can do the tests you also have to pay for them. The theory test was 25€ and the practical exam cost 130€. On top of that I also had to pay the school 220€ for the practical test and I spent 10€ on a theory learning app. I passed every test on the first go and it cost 3030€ all-in-all.

15. In total I had 11 double-lessons, so 22 "fahrstunden". One benefit with the new school was that it was 130€ per double-lesson, so changing the school wasn't necessarily a bad thing. My teacher booked me for my driving test in our second week together and a month later, today, I passed the test!
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
14. At this point, I hadn't been driving at all for more than 5 weeks, but I registered with a new school and in the 6th week after my last lesson, I finally started my drives again, and finished my obligatory lessons in the next 3 weeks. 5 country-side drives, 4 motorway and 3 night drives.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
13. They then sent me the proof, together with an incorrectly filled in invoice. It correctly said that the date was in september, but the invoice was issued over a month later with a due date of 3 days later, which isn't even close to valid. I argued and ended up paying 16.50€ instead of 50€.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
12. I told them in no uncertain words that the contract I had signed mentioned a 45 minute test drive, not a 15 minute one, and that the law says that they have to provide the proof of education without any mention of outstanding payments. They never even sent me an invoice, this was over whatsapp.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
11. When doing the manual test-drive I 5 weeks earlier there was never any mention of a cost neither before or after, and since I had just finished the paid lesson right before there was no implication of cost. But the moment I wanted to switch school, they wanted 50€ from me.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
10. On the 4th week since my last lesson, they finally sent a generic message to my email about some nonspecific issue they were having. On the 5th week I demanded my Ausbildungsnachweis so I could register with another school without starting over. Then they started to demand money from me...

9. After this, I was assigned a new teacher for the automatic who turned out to also be on vacation! After this, he cancelled the booked lesson due to illness. On the third week, he ghosted me completely and I couldn't even reach the school for an answer. For 2 weeks I tried to call and send emails.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
8. This was very irritating but I still managed to drive fine. I did the test-drive and he passed me. During this time I also did my theory test and had 29/30 answers correct on the first try! After that I was scheduled for lessons with an automatic, which is the benefit of a B197 license.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
7. For B197 you drive with a manual car for a minimum of 10 "fahrstunden" (which means 45 minutes), more if the teacher judges it necessary. Immediately after the first two drives my teacher took a week vacation, which he only told me after the second drive and not when I had asked for the lessons.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
6. Then I started my practical lessons and it's where the problems started. I had asked months in advance to schedule as many lessons as possible in the end of August/beginning of September but even though I was promised, they only scheduled two in the first week. Each lesson was 150€ for 90 minutes

5. It's obligatory to attend 14 theory classes before you can take the theory exam. Apparently, it can be any of the classes in any order, even the same one 14 times in a row. I didn't verify this by testing, but the school I chose messed up the order at some point and I repeated a few lessons.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
4. With all of these documents you can then officially register in the Burgeramt. It costs about 45€ and took me about 8 weeks to be approved. After its approved you get an account where you can pay for your tests and see your results, but first you have to attend the theory classes.

3. Aside from that you need a vision test certificate and a passport photo, which you usually can get done at the school or first-aid course. I got my photo done for 5€ and the vision-test was free from my optician since I use glasses since several years already.
November 26, 2025 at 11:43 AM
2. Once registered with a school you need to complete a few obligatory steps. The most important is getting a first-aid certificate, which for me was a 7-hour practical course in German that costed 50€. You can't just sit down and listen, you have to actually pass it!
